Art of Healing - Australian Indigenous Bush Medicine catalogue

The ‘Art of Healing’ gift range illustrates Indigenous healing methods of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and is drawn from selected works from the University of Melbourne Medical History Museum collection.

The exhibition ‘The Art of Healing: Australian Indigenous Bush Medicine’ explored the enduring presence and evolution of Indigenous medicine, and presents, through contemporary art, examples of specific treatments and broader approaches to healthy living from across Australia. It affirms that traditional healing is thriving—an intrinsic part of the lives of many Indigenous communities.

‘The Art of Healing: Australian Indigenous Bush Medicine’ was a major exhibition at the University’s Medical History Museum in 2018. In 2019-2020 the exhibition travelled to King's College London and the Museum of Medical History, Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Owners of the unceded lands on which we work, learn and live. We pay respect to Elders past, present and future, and acknowledge the importance of Indigenous knowledge in the Academy.
